A witty, twisted thriller from Canadian writer-director Jacob Tierney (The Trotsky), Good Neighbours is set in Montréal’s rundown Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood, where sullen waitress Louise (Emily Hampshire) and her caustic, wheelchair-bound friend Spencer (Scott Speedman) live in sarcastic co-dependence.

When Victor (Jay Baruchel), an overly friendly schoolteacher, develops a painfully obvious interest in Louise, he upsets the routine that Louise and Spencer have made for themselves—as does a string of unsolved homicides in the area, which Louise takes an unseemly interest in. Echoing such cool, grimy nineties thrillers as Danny Boyle’s Shallow Grave, Good Neighbours is a sharp, acerbically funny work by one of our finest young filmmakers.
